Lenovo Thinkpad T61 Laptops
When Lenovo released the T61 they took the opportunity to transform the look and feel of the laptop. T61s are wider than T60s, giving the user a widescreen effect at a resolution of 1440x900.
Like any Lenovo corporate machine they are well built, sturdy and very reliable.
Standard spec was high - usually at least 1GB of RAM plus 60GB or more hard disk drive space.
A T61, even though it is a couple of years old, will offer plenty more years service to anyone looking for a reliable laptop.
You should be able to upgrade a T61 to 3GB of RAM with no problems - the laptop has two RAM slots so a 2GB stick and a 1GB stick will give you the maximum.
T61s use DDR2 PC2-5300 or DDR2 PC2-6400 RAM.
RAM slots are very easy to access as they are just under the touchpad - remove a couple of screws and you have access.
As for upgrading the hard disk drive, use a laptop (i.e. 2.5") SATA drive.
For power adaptors, the T61 will use the same as a T60 onwards but cannot use anything below a T60.
In short, a Lenovo T61 laptop with 3GB of RAM and a large hard disk drive will provide you with a great little machine that should last for several years. Parts are remarkably easy to change and it will run XP, Vista or Windows 7 quite happily.
