Lenovo Thinkpad T60 Laptops
With the T60 came a change in design from the older T4x series. There also came a change in the type of power adaptor the machine could use.
T60s were badged under the Lenovo brand after the Chinese company bought the IBM personal computer business.
Typically the T60 came with just 512MB of RAM and this can make it a bit sluggish when running XP and probably unusable for Vista and Windows 7 unless the amount of RAM is increased.
Luckily it is quite straightforward to increase the amount of memory in a T60. It has two slots in which you can put RAM sticks and the T60 will take a maximum of 3GB. Running Windows XP on a T60 with 3GB of RAM is very smooth and it is also able to run Vista with no problems.
Lenovo T60 laptops use "DDR2 PC2-5300 200-pin SODIMM" memory so make sure to order that if you want to upgrade.
To upgrade the RAM just remove the 5 screws that are labeled with a keyboard symbol and then carefully unclip the fingerboard (the piece of plastic containing the touchpad). You will find the RAM slots underneath there so, unlike the T4x series laptops, there is no need to remove the keyboard.
Along with the introduction of the T60 series came a change in the type of hard disk drive used. To replace the hard disk drive you need to make sure you purchase a "Laptop 2.5" SATA hard disk drive".
To replace the HDD all you need to do is remove the holding screw and replace the current hard drive with the new one in the caddy and then slide it back in to the laptop.
One further point to remember - T60s use different power adapters than T4x laptops so make sure you order the correct adapter.
